The Little Giant® Dark Horse™ combines some of our best ladder features into one versatile multi-position ladder that will suit your ladder needs for years to come.
The best part about the Little Giant multi-position ladders is that it accomplishes multiple tasks with one ladder. Set up the Dark Horse in A-frame, extension, 90-degree, staircase and trestle-and-plank* positions, for a versatile, easy climbing experience.
1. PATENTED METAL ROCK LOCK
Metal Rock Lock adjusters on the ladder's rails allow for quick and easy height and position adjustment.
2. PALM BUTTONS
Move from storage to A-frame to extension ladder configurations by pushing in the ladder's palm buttons.
3. TIP & GLIDE WHEELS
The Dark Horse's integrated Tip & Glide wheels help you move the ladder easily from place to place.
The Dark Horse can be converted into trestle-and-plank scaffolding by removing the outer section of the ladder and connecting it with trestle brackets. Attach a Plank between the two trestles to cover a larger workspace, so you can work faster. (Trestle brackets and Plank sold separately)
NON-CONDUCTIVE FIBERGLASS LADDER WITH SIDE-TIP STABILITY
Made from durable, non-conductive fiberglass, this ladder is ideal for most jobs. It also features a wide-flared base for increased side-tip stability to prevent falls from accidental overreaching.
The Dark Horse meets or exceeds all OSHA and ANSI standards. It is available as a IA 300 lb. rated ladder, and it is also available as a 13’ IAA ladder rated to hold 375 lbs.

Size refers to the ANSI definition of length. ANSI states that the size is defined by the combined length of all rail sections, with a tolerance of +/-3” on each section. Note, this does not take into account any overlap between sliding sections like those on an extension or multi-purpose ladder. This can cause a disparity in the size of the ladder versus the actual height. To determine which ladder you need, Little Giant recommends you reference maximum reach height instead of size.
The terminology for ladder duty ratings, grades, and types can sometimes be confusing. The ladder's duty rating is the maximum safe load capacity of that ladder according to ANSI standards. There are 3 types of ratings that Little Giant offers:
Type I - Made to handle everyday projects. Has a load capacity of 250 lbs.
Type IA- Designed with durability and regular use in mind. Has a load capacity of 300 lbs.
Type IAA- Built for professional performance and rugged use. Has a load capacity of 375 lbs.
Ladder specifications can be confusing due to safety regulation requirements. According to ANSI (American National Standards Institute), the ladder size is defined as the total length of each section and does not account for overlap on extension ladders. As a result, the overlapping sections reduce the total length of the ladder. When purchasing any ladder customers should pay particular attention to the maximum reach to ensure the correct product for the job.
